DENVER - Twelve hours after Lindsey Frank's first contractions, the pain becomes unbearable. She is at home surrounded by two midwives and a doula who support her through the pain. Frank will not have any access to painkillers while attempting a homebirth. A birthing tub is used to help soothe the pain. Erasing the Past
Gerardo Lopez, a former gang member, gets his tattoos removed. Lopez is now a key player in the gang reduction initiative helping youth get out of gangs in Denver. He brings youth with him to witness the process as a deterrent from them getting tattooed. Tattoo removal s a painful, multi-step process that takes months to complete. Lopez says removing a tattoo feels ten times more painful than getting one.
